Visionary Analytics (VA), together with Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), Fraunhofer ISI, Technopolis Group, and 4CF, is pleased to announce the launch of a pivotal research initiative, “The Futures of AI: Implications for Europe’s R&I Ecosystem and Policy.”
The purpose of this study is to investigate how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping the research and innovation (R&I) landscape in Europe. It will provide insights into AI’s current adoption, project future developments, and deliver actionable policy recommendations to support AI-driven innovation in Europe. Key project objectives include:
- Mapping AI in Europe: Assessing the current integration of AI technologies across industries and identifying underutilised opportunities.
- Exploring Trends and Impacts: Analysing technological and industrial trends, highlighting challenges and opportunities for Europe’s R&I ecosystem.
- Developing Future Scenarios: Creating plausible scenarios for AI’s impact by 2040, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
- Policy Recommendations: Offering guidance to help EU policymakers address the opportunities and risks of AI while aligning with societal, ethical, and ecological goals.
This initiative combines various methods, such as forward-looking research, interviews, workshops, and surveys with experts and stakeholders, and scenario-building exercises to explore the implications of AI for Europe’s future. The final report will deliver evidence-based policy insights to help shape strategic planning and future EU R&I Framework Programmes.
