VA Leading Initiatives on Telework and the Right to Disconnect

23 July 2024/Study

Telework – the use of information technology to perform work away from the employer’s premises – has been on the rise across the EU, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic and various technological advancements. The right to disconnect, though not yet uniformly regulated at the EU level, aims to shield workers from the negative impacts of the always-on culture by ensuring they are not obliged to engage in work-related communications outside their regular working hours. Visionary Analytics is pleased to announce our continued efforts in this field by leading a new Study supporting the ex-ante analysis of the impacts and potential policy options of an EU initiative in the area of telework and workers’ right to disconnect in the workplace, launched by DG EMPL. VA will be supported by Notus: Applied Social Research, Centre for Strategy & Evaluation Services (CSES), and independent experts.

The study will explore the socio-economic implications of telework and the always-on culture, providing critical insights and policy recommendations. To achieve this, the team will employ a variety of methods, including:

  • Data Collection and Analysis to utilise EU-level surveys, relevant literature, legal documents, and analysis of online job ads.
  • Targeted Stakeholder Consultations to engage with a wide range of stakeholders through workshops, interviews, surveys, and vignette experiments.
  • Econometric Modeling and Scenario Building to develop models to forecast future changes, quantitatively assess likely impacts, and create qualitative and quantitative scenarios to evaluate future impacts and potential policy options.

This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting sustainable employment practices in the digital age. Moreover, this is a continuation of a recently published Study exploring the social, economic and legal context and trends of telework and the right to disconnect, in the context of digitalisation and the future of work, during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic our team worked on before for DG EMPL. Check out the results of our previous study report and stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this journey to improve working conditions and promote a better work-life balance across the EU.
